H1N1
We did a lot of research on this one and found that there were two very opposing views.
On one hand you have the drug company driven doctors telling you to get the vaccine or die. The media starts the scare tactics on behalf of the pharmaceutical companies and the next thing you know the government is buying 800 million doses at $80 a shot. A very lucrative business to say the least.
On the other hand you have the holistic approach that believes the body will fight it’s own battles and that the drug companies are issuing these shots without testing. They tell you that the shot is poison, contains extremely toxic amounts of mercury (enough in fact to still be considered toxic if administered to a man weighing 550 lbs.), and that this type of treatment lowers the bodies natural ability to defend against these bugs.
After reading way too much on the subject I decided that this shot wasn’t a great idea for Lexi. I might not have gotten the shot out of pure laziness but it is so much more important when making this decision for someone who is 17 lbs. and only 10 months old. I got to thinking that if the amount of mercury in that shot was still considered toxic in a 550 lb man, what can it do to my 17 lb baby girl? I also watched a video from a clinic here in Winnipeg (Bohemier Chiropractic) that ran through the ingredients noting everything from antifreeze to known carcinogens. There was numbers to suggest that even though the number of flu shot doses have increased by 65% the number of diagnosed cases has remained the same. Suggesting that the shot may have little or no affect on the virus.
Dr. Joel Bohemier is a guy I used to hang out with, and a credible doctor, so to hear him talk about the facts and conspiracy of H1N1 really hit home with me. He talks about how each time we get one of these short term vaccines our long term ability to fight off these bugs decreases. It states that if we allow Lexi to have all her shots she will have over 30 by the time she is 5 years old. Her long term immune system will be reduced to nothing which means that she will need vaccines for the rest of her life to fight the short term effects of the flu and other bugs. I am pretty sure that most of those vaccines are kept sterile with an active ingredient called mercury, also known as the second most toxic chemical on earth (next to plutonium I believe). You can check out the video here.
I also checked out some less credible sources that felt like H1N1 was just another flu.
So now I had two very one-sided views and had to decide for myself (and Lexi) which to believe. To make things even more complicated Shannon is very high risk for bringing home the flu because she is a teacher. For that reason alone she wanted to get the shot at the very least to make sure Lexi was protected from whatever went around her classroom.
The final straw for us was when we went to see Dr. Hilderman. She has suggested in the past that we get Lexi the flu shot along with the other immunizations she received in the office. She also suggested we get her the H1N1 vaccine.
We trust Dr. Hilderman with Lexi’s health. A couple months ago when Lexi was battling a bladder infection Dr. Hilderman prescribed some medication. For all I know it could have been pure mercury but I didn’t care to ask. I just trusted in Lexi’s doctor to prescribe the proper medication, and in a couple days we had our healthy little girl back. I didn’t bother to go home and Google the ingredients of the medicine we were giving her 2 times daily with her meals. I didn’t check back to 1976 to see how they were treating infant bladder infections at that time. I just trusted in her doctor.
Hilderman took the time to listen to our concerns and assured us that the risk associated in taking the vaccine was less than the risk of not getting it and having a very sick child on our hands and hearts. She said that Lexi has already had shots with similar amounts of mercury in them, just as we all have. Scary I know, but true. I guess we could always just get her one of those bubble-boy suits and keep her in the house for the rest of her life.

Joe Rogan once blogged that “if you put a bunch of people in a dark cave that are scared of the dark, they will follow anyone with a flash light”.
I guess Joe was right. See you in the line-up.
Tom and Shannon
This is the first of many dilemmas you will face raising that precious little girl. You have done the right things – asked all the questions, searched for answers, and consulted others. In the end you must follow your hearts. Trust that you will be guided to do what is right. Love to you all.
