This is what happens when you kiss a girl in her bathing suit.

Latching On

December3

Last night was another enlightening experience at prenatal classes. It brought me back to the Elephant and Castle one night when Shan and I were sitting with Tyler and Amanda eating up Mandy’s data plan on her Blackberry searching for the term “Areola”. Did you know that the bottom half of said “Areola” contains more milk producing membranes than the upper half. This is what I learned last night.

I also learned that in the event of a bad latch, in which the baby is not feeding to it’s full potential, you need to disengage the baby strategically and re-latch. This posed the question: how does one properly disengage a hungry little milk sucking vampire from the teet? I can tell you that sprinkling a little salt on them is highly frowned upon.

I also learned that when the teacher asks for a volunteer to demonstrate giving birth to twins by caesarian section, hiding your face in your hands and repeating no, no, no, in your head…does not work.

Prenatal Classes Starring Brad Pitt

November6

We started prenatal classes this week. It’s in a building downtown on the thrid floor and I found it kinda funny that the whole floor moves when you walk. Of course I know the husband of the girl who runs the program, and as soon as we walked in we were greeted by a girl Shan knows from school. Small world.

We watched a graphic video of the whole birthing process starring Brad Pitt. Well not really but this one woman really looked like him when she was pushing. I think the movie was called “Holy Shit Am I Ever Glad I Am A Man”. So far it looks like it is my job to let my wife hang all over me, touch my face, and count to four. I do that now anyway.

Apparently it is also my job to embarass my wife at prenatal classes by yelling out “The Runs” when asked the signs of early labour. During the movie I paid close attention to these signs as they closely resemble my reoccurring IBS. Nobody else was saying anything so I thought Shan would be proud of me for paying attention but she just kinda sat there with her face in her hands when the teacher asked me to repeat myself. “You know…THE RUNS”, I said again.

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice!

October29

It’s a girl.

Yes, we are sure. The doctor assured us of this by stating that if it wasn’t a girl he had the smallest penis he has ever seen. Oh god I hope it’s a girl!

Shan has been feeling the kicks and they are starting not to startle her as much. Up until now they would kinda sneak up on her and she would stop what she was saying and catch her breathe. Pregnancy is fun.

At least the puking has gone away.

This weekend we moved our spare bed into the office and put together the babies crib, in what is now the babies room. Of course we are super excited about all of this and can hardly wait for January. How often do you hear people say that in Winnipeg?

Breaking the News to JD and Linda!

October29

One of the best things about being pregnant is getting to tell people, most of all our parents. Shan didn’t know how to tell her dad so we just winged it.

Shan Swallowed a Cell Phone!

October29

That was Shan’s brothers response to the picture of the ultrasound that went out titled: “Look what we did”.

I decided that I was going to start yet another website so that we could blog a little about how excited we are about becoming parents for the first time. How could we not be excited with the parents we come from? It’s like watching a dolphin cut through the water and thinking “man, I wish I could swim like that”.

Anyway, the difference between this website and the org is that Shan can add content to this one quickly and easily so hopefully I will not be the only one maintaining it. As for the name, well I chose it a while back for a couple of reasons. Firstly whenever I hear the word “Manizzle” I think of some motherly nourishment, like Manuzzle, or Manipple. Secondly I am secretly hoping that one day Snoop Dog himself is going to offer me a large sum of money for this URL and I will use it for the baby’s education. So you see it’s all related.

Anyway, if you think of anything you might like to see here feel free to send us your comments…
